WORKSHOP TOPICS

Commedia dell’arte (Monday, July 13)

Come learn about this well-known Italian style of theatre! With its roots tracing back to the 16th century and still popular today!

Improvisation (Tuesday, July 14)

This workshop will explore the fundamentals of improvisation including saying yes, making and responding to offers, being in the moment, and listening. We will play a variety of games and hone our improv skills as a group. The workshop will culminate in a friendly and fast-paced competition where teams will compete in a number of games inspired by the television show “Whose Line is It Anyway?”

Japanese Theatre (Wednesday, July 15)

Come learn more about Eastern theatre traditions with Thomas Freeman. Students will be exposed to Noh, Kagura, and Bunraku styles!

Character Development (Thursday, July 16)

You’ve been cast in a show ... Now what? This workshop will explore how to develop a character using a number of diverse techniques. We will read a short play and each actor will chose a character they would like to explore. We will ground our investigation in the text discovering and experimenting with how the character might walk, talk, and gesture. The workshop will end with the actors integrating the character work they’ve done into the staging of different sections of the play.

Freeing Your Natural Voice (Thursday, July 17)

This workshop is an introduction to the vocal work of Kristin Linklater, using her text Freeing the Natural Voice. Kristin Linklater is a world-renowned teacher and Linklater Voice is one of the leading methodologies of voice training in theater today. Taught by Courtney Helen Grile.
